(Amazing) Vivian Maier @ Beetles & Huxley, Mayfair

what a show!

Incorrigibly private, Vivian Maier’s secret life as a photographer wasn’t discovered until boxes of over 100,000 negatives and undeveloped film rolls were bought at auction two years before her death. Thanks in part to the documentary film ‘Finding Vivian Maier’ about the discovery and the subsequent exhibitions of this street photographer; Maier is no longer an unknown photographic talent and joins the ranks of Brassai, Cartier-Bresson and Walker Evans. It was Maier’s day job as a nanny that enabled her to trawl the streets of Chicago and New York for unsuspecting subjects who she captured with her Rolliflex.

London photography exhibition opens in Ealing

great exhibition for  Award-winning photographer Phil Hatcher has launched a new exhibit, London Perspective, at Artisan Coffee in Ealing.

Phil is a London based photographer who has lived and worked in many countries around the world, predominantly in South America.

In 2009 he was invited to work for Bushmasters, an extreme jungle survival company based in Guyana, where he documented clients’ expeditions into the jungle through a series of photographs. Whilst in the country, Phil also attended Guyana’s annual rodeo weekend where by gaining access to the arena floor, he was able to capture more intimately the intensity of rodeo events such as bull riding and barrel racing. The photos provided an insight into the Guyanese character and were used for promotional purposes by Bushmasters and the Guyanese Tourism Authority.

In 2012 Phil’s work was exhibited for the first time in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2015, Phil’s photograph, ‘No Sleep for Two Years’ won first prize in City Lit’s Portrait competition. Also in 2015, a new body of work was presented in the UK for the first time. ‘London Perspectives’ offers up contrasting views of the capital and its inhabitants, exploring the highs and lows of London.

COLIN O’BRIEN IS AN AMAZING PHOTOGRAPHER

WOW!! Colin O’Brien’s Exhibition is beautiful!

Hi biography from his website explains: “Colin O’Brien’s journey of photography began in 1948 when he took a picture of his two Italian friends with his family’s old brownie box camera in Clerkenwell.

The Clerkenwell O’Brien was born into in 1940 is now a long distant memory, compared to today’s loft apartments and designer shops along Clerkenwell Road.

This is what makes O’Brien’s images of day to day life in the 50s and 60s – children playing, lovers taking a stroll and even car crashes so significant. The commonplace is so often overlooked, but these photographs are the most important documentation of a way of life that has long since ceased to exist.

eBay buyer scammed into paying £300 for photo of Apple MacBook

eBay can be a dangerous place. Some of my friends got scammed and I had some bad experiences in the past as well. Always check and double check the seller’s information and credentials. If the seller isn’t a UK based business, if his name sounds funny, if the communication is bad, if the prices are too good to be true, look for a different store.

the story of a Devon man who sold his belongings to buy a new laptop and was sent a photo of the computer instead, tops all the stories I’ve heard so far!
